Umesh Rashmi Rohtagi

 
 

Mr. Umesh and Mrs. Rashmi Rohatgi, resident of USA (both are US citizen) for last 23 years. They are not only involved in full time social work after taking a break from active work in U.S.A. but also made a new self-sustainable village, “sursardham” in Raper subdivision of Kutch District, Gujarat India.  Earthquake affected area this village has a population of about 720 people and 114 new homes of 320 sq. ft. on a plot size of 1820 Sq. Ft. This village lies in the area affected by the earthquake of 26th January 2001. Mr. Rohatgi is professional engineer since 1980, in state of Michigan. Funding for this project is received from Rotary club of Novi, India Development & Relief Fund USA, Disciple Center in India, Active Friends of The Homeless, also family and friends in USA and India. There are many other projects in 10 Indian states e.g. Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madya Pradesh, New Delhi, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttra Anchal, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal.


They are also involved in various activities in Michigan like helping homeless for last 18 years through (AFOTH). Founder member and life members of various temples, like Bhartiya Temple of Troy MI, Hindu temple of canton MI, Arya Samaj Temple of Detroit in Farmington Hills MI. Volunteering in different projects with Volunteer Impact (VI) like tutoring Detroit school children and teaching Internet to seniors in Detroit, doing clean up work in Detroit during hands on Detroit day, helping at food bank in Pontiac. Umesh is charter member of professional advisory board in University of Michigan Dearborn in Computer and Information Science Department for last 8 years. Umesh is also a founder and life member and served in many capacities in American Society of Engineers from India. IDCA founder member as well. IDS contributor and presenter. Visited some 400 villages in 20 states in last 10 years of continued frequent visits every year since 1996 till date. 20 hermits converted to pakka homes in Tamil Nadu, 40 latrines in West Bengal, 7 homes in Orissa. 250 computers for villages in UP school and  in MP Deen Dayal Research Institute Chitrakoot. Main strength of our is to listen their problems and come to the solution with their help and resources available and get it executed by the recipients and expect the same help the recipients will give help to others when they can. They can because the marginal income increase which they can share with less fortunate then them.


Written about 105 English and 55 Hindi articles and which are published in USA and India and translated in many Indian languages and in Nepali. Some of these could be seen in Articles.
